Chap. 1398.—An ACT for the relief of Mrs. Almira Sorrell, widow of
Confederate soldier.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas W. A. Sorrell, a Confederate soldier of King George coun
who was a member of company B, thirtieth Virginia regiment, Cors
brigade, Pickett’s division, was wounded at the battle of Sharpsbur;
on the seventeenth day of September, eighteen hundred and sixty}
four; and
Whereas he has since died, leaving a widow with four small childre
in destitute circumstances, having no support whatever; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That th
county court of King George county shall examine into the conditio!
of Almira Sorrell, the widow of a Confederate soldier, and if it b
that her former husband W. A. Sorrell, was true and loyal to Virgini
through the war, and that she, Almira Sorrell, his widow, is in need:
circumstances, and should receive aid from Virginia, and if the count:
court of King George county should send a certificate of the facts t
the auditor of public accounts of Virginia, then the auditor of publi
accounts is directed to place the name of Almira Sorrell on the pensior
list and pay her annually the sum of fifteen dollars, on and after the
first day of April, nineteen hundred.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
