Chap. 1396.—An ACT for the relief of Robert P. G. Shafer, a wounded Confed-
erate soldier.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas Robert P. G. Shafer, a disabled Confederate soldier of com-
pany F. fifty-second Virginia regiment, Earlv’s brigade, Ewell’s division.
was a true and gallant soldier during the civil war between the states;
was loval to Virginia: and
Whereas he is suffering from gun-shot wounds, first, in the battle
of Fredericksburg, December thirteenth, eighteen hundred and sixtv-
two, where he was shot through the hand, losing two fingers, and again
wounded through the left shoulder, July third, eighteen hundred and
sixty-three, in consequence of which wounds he has heen greatly dis-
abled, and cannot perform heavy manual labor by reason of thes
wounds, that he and his family are dependent for their support upo
his labor, that he owns no real estate, and is now in a condition t
need assistance from Virginia; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That if tt
county court of Rockbridge should send a certificate of these facts t
the auditor of public accounts, then the auditor of public accounts
directed to place the name of Robert P. G. Shafer on the pension |i
and pay him annually the sum of fifteen dollars, on and after tl
first day of April, nineteen hundred.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
