Chap. 1394.—An ACT for the relief of Martha Gilly, widow of a Confederate
soldier.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas Hogwood Gilly, was a soldier in the late war between the
states, and while in the service of the state of Virginia, received a
wound in the knee on the fifth dav of April, eighteen hundred and
sixty-five, from the effect of which he died in June, eighteen hundred
and sixty-five, leaving a dependent widaw, Martha Gilly, without a
home and greatly in need of the small amount which is annually drawn
by the widows of other soldiers who lost their lives in the late war;
therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the gencral assembly of Virginia, That the
county court of Patrick county shall inquire into the condition of the
said Martha Gilly, and if the said court shall certify to the auditor
of public accounts that the said Martha Gilly is now poor and needy,

and that her husband, Hogwood Gilly, was a true and gallant soldier
during the war between the states, was loyal to Virginia, and that he
received a wound while in the service of the state of Virginia, which
caused his death, then the auditor of public accounts is hereby directed
to place the name of the said Martha Gilly, of Patrick county, upon the
pension list to receive a pension as other widows of Confederate soldiers.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
