Chap. 1379.—An ACT for the relief of Mrs. M. J. Bell, widow of N. W. Bell,
a Confederate soldier.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas N. W. Bell was a soldier in the late war between the states,
and was honorably discharged from the service after having served four
years in the fourteenth Virginia regiment; and
Whereas for several years during his lifetime, the said N. W. Bell
received a pension of fifteen dollars per annum from the state of Vir-
ginia, in consequence of wounds received by him as a Confederate
soldier; and
Whereas the said N. W. Bell has departed this life, leaving a widow.
Mistress M. J. Bell, who is in reduced circumstances and is poor and
needy; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
auditor of public accounts be, and he is hereby, directed to place upon
the pension list the name of Mistress M. J. Bell, the widow of N. W.
Bell, of Amelia county, to receive a pension of fifteen dollars per annum.
as other widows of Confederate soldiers: provided, however, that the
said Mistress M. J. Bell shall first prove the above facts before the
county court of Amelia county.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
