Chap. 1343.—An ACT for the relief of C. W. Hughes, a disabled Confederat
soldier.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas C. W. Hughes, a disabled Confederate soldier, company F
Wright’s artillery, Major Boggs commanding, was a true and gallan
soldier during the Confederate war, and was loyal to Virginia; and
Whereas he was three times wounded while in the service of Virginia
the rincipal wound being a bone fracture of the left leg, whereb:
that leg is badly crippled and much shorter than the other so that he i
permanently disabled; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That th
county court of the county of Halifax shall examine into the conditior
of the above-named C. W. Hughes, a Confederate soldier, and should i
be that he was true and loval to Virginia through the war and that h
is now destitute and incapacitated for manual labor as a result o
said wounds received while in the service; that he is needy and poo:
and should receive aid from Virginia, and if the county court of Halifa:
county shall send a certificate of the facts to the auditor of publi
accounts of Virginia, then the auditor of public accounts shall place
the name of the said C. W. Hughes upon the pension list and shal
pay him annually the sum of fifteen dollars.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
