Chap. 1339.—An ACT for the relief of Mrs. N. R. Hicks, widow of a Confed-
erate soldier.

Whereas N. R. Hicks, of Carroll county, served in the late war
between the states as a member of company C, of the twenty-fourth
Virginia regiment, and was a valiant and faithful soldier; and
Whereas he died some years ago from the effects of wounds received
during the battle of Gettysburg, leaving a widow, who is now living,
but is old, feeble, and penniless; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That Mistress
Susannah Hicks, widow of the aforesaid N. R. Hicks, shall be placed
on the pension roll of this state, to receive a pension of fifteen dollars
per year: provided, that the county court of said county shall have
certified to the auditor of public accounts that the foregoing recitals
are true. Upon receipt of such certificate the said auditor is directed
to place the name of Mistress Hicks on the pension roll and pay her
a pension of fifteen dollars per annum.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
