Chap. 1336.—An ACT for the relief of John W. Childress.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas John W. Childress, a Confederate soldier of Captain M. S.
Ratliff’s company, of Virginia, was a true and gallant soldier during
the war; was loyal to Virginia; and
Whereas he is now sixty-eight years old and totally blind, and unable
to perform manual labor, and has no property or income of any kind;
therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
county court of Buchanan county shall examine into the condition of
the above-named John W. Childress, a Confederate soldier, and should
it be that he was true and loyal to Virginia through the war, and that
he is now afflicted and incapacitated from performing manual labor and
is destitute of property or means, and if the said court of Buchanan
county shall send a certificate of the facts to the auditor of public
accounts of Virginia, then the auditor of public accounts is directed
to place the name of the said John W. Childress on the pension list
of the state and pay him annually the sum of fifteen dollars.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
