Chap. 131.—An ACT to incorporate the independent order of Galilean
fishermen.
Approved January 24, 1900.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That Moses
Reed, president; Richard Parker, vice-president; Abram Jackson,
chaplain; George F. Parker, secretary; S. J. Russell, treasurer; Solomon
Jackson, advisor, and all other persons who are now or may hereafter
be associated with them, and their successors, shall be, and they are
hereby, constituted a body politic and corporate, by the name and
style of the independent order of Galilean fishermen of Virginia, for
the purpose of providing for the poor, ministering to the sick, and
burying the dead of their order; and by said name shall have perpetual
succession and a common seal, and may sue and be sued, and may enact
a constitution and by-laws for the election, government, and removal of
its officers, for the admission and expulsion of members, for the acquisi-
tion and management of its property, and the proper conduct of its
affairs, and for all other matters not inconsistent with this act and the
laws of this state, and may alter, amend, and repeal the same from time
to time; and may acquire and hold property—real, personal, and
mixed—by purchase, gift, or devise, and may appoint trustees to hold
and manage the same with authority to purchase, lease, hire, sell, alien,
mortgage, and exchange the same.
2. The amount of real estate to be held by said corporation shall
not, however, exceed two acres as a site for the buildings of the prin-
ipal lodge and two acres as a site for the buildings of each subordinate
odge, and such lands as may be necessary and proper as cemeteries.
[he purpose of said incorporation being entirely benevolent, its capital
stock is fixed at the nominal sum of five thousand dollars.
3. The principal lodge and place of business shall be in King George
ounty, Virginia, with authority to establish subordinate lodves
hroughout the commonwealth.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
