Chap. 1296.—An ACT for the relief of Lucy Terry.
Approved March 7, 10.
Whereas the late John W. Terrv, of Henry county, Virginia, was a
faithful, brave, and loyal soldier of Virginia in the military service of
the Confederate states, was wounded at the hattle of Kernstown in
eighteen hundred and sixty two, while gallantly fighting under the
orders of his state as a member of company F, forty-second Virginia
reciment, he being a volunteer in the service; and
Whereas said old soldier was paralyzed for eight vears before his
death, and his true and noble wife waited patiently on him until her
health was completely broken, and she is now unable to sit up, and has
no property, and no way of gaining a livelihood, and will have to go
to the almshouse unless assisted; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That upon proof
of the foregoing facts before Henrv county court there shall be paid
annually to the said Lucy Terry, widow of said Confederate soldier,
upon the warrant of the auditor of public accounts the sum of fifteen
dollars, which is hereby allowed her as an annual pension during her
life.
