Chap. 1286.—An ACT for the relief of Mrs. Martha Jane Harvey, widow of a
Confederate soldier.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas Rohert Lipscomh. a brave Confederate soldier, was killed
in the battle of Gaines’ mill on twentv-seventh of June, eighteen hun-
dred and sixty-two, leaving a widow, Martha Jane Lipscomb, in destitute
circumstances with several small children, the care and support of which
devolved wholly on her. She subsequently married a man named
Harvey, who dicd very soon thereafter, and inasmuch as it appears from
certificates of prominent citizens of Charlotte county that the said
Martha Jane Harvey has raised and provided for the children of Robert
uipscom), and is now old and needy; therefore,
Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That on proof
of ‘ihe allezed facts before the county court of Charlotte and on the
certification of same to the auditor of public accounts, the auditor be,
and is hereby, directed to place the name of Martha J. Harvey on the
pension rolls of Virginia as a widow of a Confederate soldier, for a pen-
sion of fifteen dollars per year.
2. This act shall be in force from April first, nineteen hundred.
