Chap. 1268.—An ACT for the relief of Mary J. Norford, widow of a Confed
erate soldier.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas William T. Norford, a deceased Confederate soldier of Vir
ginia, was a true and gallant soldier during the war; and
Whereas he was loyal to Virginia; and
Whereas his widow, Mary J. Norford, is now old and in indigen
circumstances and in need of aid; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That th
county court of Albemarle county shall examine into the condition o
the above-named Mary J. Norford, the widow of a Confederate soldier
and should it be found that the said William T. Norford was true an
loyal to Virginia through the war, and that his said widow is nov
afflicted and in destitute circumstances and is needy and poor, an
should receive aid from the state of Virginia, and if the county cour
of Albemarle county shall send a certificate of the facts to the audito
of public accounts of Virginia, then the auditor of public accounts 1
directed to place the name of the said Mary J. Norford on the pensio.:
list, and pay her annually the sum of fifteen dollars, on and afte
the first day of April, nineteen hundred.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
