Chap. 1252.—An ACT for the relief of James Watkins Cook Walton, a disabled
Confederate soldier.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas James Watkins Cook Walton, a disabled Confederate soldier
of company F, fifty-third regiment of Virginia infantry, under Cap-
tain Henry Edmonds, was a true and gallant soldier during the whole
war, was loyal to Virginia; and
Whereas he is now suffering from paralysis of the spinal column,
bed: -ridden, and entirely helpless, and without means of support; there-
ore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
corporation or hustings court of the city of Manchester, Virginia, shall
examine into the condition of the above-named James Watkins Cook
Walton, a Confederate soldier, and should it be he was true and loyal to
Virginia through the war, and he is now afflicted and helpless from
disease, as stated above, and incapacitated for manual labor, and that
he is needy and poor, and if the court above named should send a cer-
tificate of the facts to the auditor of public accounts of Virginia, then
the auditor of public accounts is directed to place the name of James
Watkins Cook Walton on the pension list and pay him annually the
sum of fifteen dollars, on and after the first day of April nineteen
hundred.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
