Chap. 1214.—An ACT for the relief of Mrs. S. J. Miller, widow of a Confed-
\ erate soldier.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas the husband of Mistress S. J. Miller, a deceased Confederate
soldier, was a true and gallant soldier; was loyal to Virginia, and died
during the war, leaving the said Mistress S. J. Miller as his widow; and
Whereas the said Mistress S. J. Miller, his widow, is in extreme pov-
erty, and dependent upon the charity of her neighbors for a support;
therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
county court of Bedford county shall examine into the facts above
stated in regard to the hushand of Mistress S. J. Miller. a Confederate
soldier; and should it be that he was true and loyal to Virginia through
the war, and that he is now dead, and that the said Mistress S. J. Miller
is his widow, and is needy and poor and should receive aid from Vir-
zinia, and if the county court of Bedford should send a certificate of
the facts to the auditor of public accounts of Virginia, then the auditor
of public accounts is directed to place the name of Mistress S. J. Miller
on the pension list, and pay her annually the sum of fifteen dollars, on
and after the first dav of April, nineteen hundred.
2, This act shall be in force from its passage.
