Chap. 1198.—An ACT for the relief of the widow of an old Confederate soldier,
Manervia Burchett, wife of Samuel Burchett.

Whereas Samuel Burchett, an old Confederate soldicr in company B,
fiftieth Virginia regiment infantry, a Virginian who enlisted in the
beginning of the late war between the states, who served the entire war
through, and followed Lee and Jackson as a faithful soldier, and has
ever remained in Virginia; 4nd said Samucl Burchett died on the thirty-
first day of December, eighteen hundred and ninety-nine, at a very old
age, and leaves a very old and almost helpless widow, who is entirely
without means of support; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That Manervia
Burchett, the wife of Samuel Burchett, after establishing the foregoing
facts by affidavit for herself and two comrade soldiers before the county
court of Lee county, in which the said widow lives, that the clerk of
said court be, and is hereby, authorized to furnish to the auditor of
public accounts a certificate to that effect, and her name be placed
upon the pension rolls of Confederate soldicrs at a rate of fifteen
dollars per annum.
2. And the same shall go into effect on the first day of April, in the
year of our Lord, nineteen hundred.
