Chap. 1197.—An ACT for the relief of Mattie Clark, widow of a Confede
soldier.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas J. T. Clark was a soldier in the late war, and while im ser
received a severe wound in the left knee, which wound rendered hi
cripple the remainder of his life; and
Whereas during his lifetime, by reason of said wound, the said J
Clark, did draw a pension; and
Whereas the said J. T. Clark is now dead, leaving a dependent wit
greatly in need of the small amount which her dead husband annu
drew; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the cou
court of Patrick county shall inquire into condition of the said Ma
Clark, and if said court shall certify to the auditor of public accor
that the said Mattie Clark is poor and needy, and that her late hush
J. T. Clark, was a true and gallant soldier during the late war hetw
the states, was loyal to Virginia, and that he received a wound while
the service of the state, which rendered him cripple during the remain
of life, then the auditor of public accounts is hereby directed to pl
upon the pension list the name of Mattie Clark, of the county of Patr
to receive a pension as other widows of Confederate soldiers.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
