Chap. 1099.—An ACT for the relief of Robert H. Gaines, a Confederate
soldier.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas Robert H. Gaines, a Confederate soldier of company G,
twenty-eighth Virginia regiment, was a true and gallant soldier during
the war, was loyal to Virginia; and
W hereas the said Robert H. ‘Gaines is old and destitute, and unable to
support himself by reason of such service, and is sadly in need of aid:
therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That if the
county court of Bedford county shall examine into the condition of the
said Robert H. Gaines, a Confederate soldicr, and should it be that he
was true and loyal to Virginia during the war, and that he is now
needy and poor, and that on account of his age, decrepitude, and
poverty he is unable to support himself and should receive aid from
Virginia, and if the county court of Bedford county shall send a certi-
ficate of the facts to the auditor of pubhie accounts, then the auditor of
public accounts shall place the name of Robert If. Gaines upon the
pension list, and shall pay him annually the sum of fifteen dollars.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
