Chap. 1098.—An ACT for the relief of S. A. Deakins, a disabled Confederate
soldier.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas S. A. Deakins, a disabled Confederate soldier, of company
I, twelfth Virginia infantry, Mahone’s brigade, was a true and gallant
soldier during the late war between the states, was loyal to Virginia;
and
Whereas he is now suffering from the effects of an abscess, which
formed while in the trenches around Richmond in eighteen hundred and
sixtv-two, and has since risen seven times, almost entirely incapaci-
tating him from labor; and
Whereas he is now in very needy circumstances—
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the corpo-
ration court of the city of Norfolk shall examine into the condition of
S. A. Deakins, a Confederate soldier, and if it shall appear that he
was true and loval to Virginia through the war, that he is now suffering
from exposure during the war, end that he is wholly or partially in-
eapacitated for work, that he is needy and should receive aid from Vir-
ginia; and if the corporation court of the city of Norfolk shall send a
certificate of such facts to the auditor of pubhe accounts, then the
said auditor is directed to place the name of 8. A. Deakins on the pen-
sion list. and pay him annually, after the first day of April, nineteen
hundred, the amount allowed for total or partial disability, according to
the certificate of the said corporation court.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
