Chap. 1068.—An ACT for the relief of Thomas H. Durham, a needy Confed-
erate soldier, of Essex county.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas Thomas H. Durham, a gallant Confederate soldier, of com-
pany B, first regiment of Virginia infantry, was a true and gallant
soldier during the Confederate war, was loyal to Virginia; and
Whereas he is now suffering from the following disability—to wit:
Total loss of right eye, wound of Jeft ear, causing complete deafness,
and a broken jawbone, received in the war: therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
county court of Essex shall examine into the condition of the above-
named Thomas H. Durham, a Confederate soldier; and should it be that
he was true and loyal to Virginia throuch the war, and that he is now
afflicted and disabled and incapacitated for manual labor, that he is
needy and poor, and should receive aid from Virginia; and if the
county court of Essex should send a certificate of these facts to the
auditor of public accounts of Virginia, then the auditor of public ac-
counts is directed to place the name of Thomas H. Durham on the
pension list, and pay him annually the same compensation that is re-
ceived by those who have lost a lez or arm, commencing on and after
the first day of April, nineteen hundred.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
