Chap. 1064.—An ACT for the relief of Grief C. Chummey, a disabled Confed
erate soldier.

Whereas Grief C. Chummey, a disabled Confederate soldier, of com
any —, ninth Virginia cavalry, was a true and gallant soldier durin
lhe late war between the states, was loyal to Virginia; and
Whereas he has almost entirely lost his sight, and is suffering fror
tomach troubles contracted while in the war, and from varicose vein
aused by long marches while in the army, which disables him from a
inds of labor; and
Whereas he is without means of support—
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia. That th
ounty court of Lunenburg shall examine into the condition of th
hove-named Grief C. Chummey, a Confederate soldier, and if it sha
pear that he was true and loval to Virginia through the war, that h
< now suffering with almost complete loss of sight, that in consequenc
f his service in the army he is totally incapacitated for manual labo
hat he is needy and poor, and should reccive aid from Virginia; and >
he county court of Lunenburg shall send a certificate of said facts t
he auditor of public accounts of Virginia, then the auditor is directe
o place the name of Grief C. Chummey on the pension list and pa
lim annually the sum of thirty dollars on and after the first dav «
April. nineteen hundred.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
