Chap. 1053.—An ACT for the relief of J. W. Eley, a disabled Confederate
soldier.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas J. W. Elev, a resident of the city of Petersburg, and a vol-
unteer in the service of the Confederate states as a member of com-
pany J, third Virginia reciment of infantry, was loval to the state
of Virginia, and served with his regiment throughout the whole war;
and
Whereas the said J. W. Elev has. for the past six vears, been paralyzed
from the effect of exposure and service in the war, and has now become
disabled from manual labor; now, therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assemblv of Virginia, That the
hustings court of the city of Petersburg shall examine into the con-
dition of the above-named J. W. Elev, and should it be that he was
true and loyal to Virginia through the war, and is incapacitated for
manual labor; that he is needy and poor and should receive aid from
Virginia; and if the hustings court of the citv of Petersburg should
send a certificate of the facts to the auditor of public accounts, then
the auditor of public accounts is directed to place the name of J. W.
Eley on the pension list and pay him annually the sum of fifteen dol-
lars on and after the first day of April, nineteen hundred.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
