Chap. 1045.—An ACT to authorize the voters of James river district in Buck-
ingham county to vote on fence law.
Approved March 7, 1900.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That upon
a petition of fifty qualified voters from James river district of Bucking-
ham county, Virginia, it shall be the duty of the judge of the county
court of said county of Buckingham to order a vote taken of the quali-
fied voters of said district as to whether the boundary lines of each tract
of land shall be a lawful fence or not. It shall he the duty of the judge
of the county court to order this election not later than thirty davs after
application is made to him for said election, to be advertised hy hand
hills at. each precinct in said district fifteen days prior to said election.
Tickets for the election shall be printed by the electoral board of Buck-
incham countv—for no fence law and others against no fence law. If
from the returns from the said district it appears to the court that a
majoritv of the votes cast are in favor of no fence law, declaring the
boundary line of each tract of Janda lawful fenee, it shall be the duty
of the judge of said county court to have an order entered in the order
hook of said county court that said boundary lines of each tract of land
in suid district is a lawful fence; but if it shall appear that a majority of
the votes cast at said election in said district were against said no fence
law, it shall be the duty of the judge of the said county court to have
an order entered in the order book of said county court setting forth
that the boundary lines of each farm are no longer a lawful fence, the
general law requiring of each owner of each tract of land a lawful fence
around his land being thereby put in full force and effect: provided,
that said judge shall not order said election to be held oftener than once
