Chap. 948.—An ACT for the relief of William Pollard, a disabled Confederate
soldier.
Approved March 4, 1898.
Whereas William Pollard, a Confederate soldier, was a true and gal-
lant soldier during the late war; was loyal to Virginia; and
Whereas he is now suffering from the following disability—to-wit:
Malignant hernia of both sides contracted in the army, loss of right
leg since the war, and is unable to support himself by his labor: there-
fore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the county
court of Cumberland county shall examine into the condition of the
above-named William Pollard, a Confederate soldier; and should it be
that he was true and loyal to Virginia through the war, and that he is
now afflicted and incapacitated for manual labor; that he is needy and
poor, and should receive aid from Virginia, and if the county court of
Cumberland county should send a certificate of the facts to the auditor
of public accounts of Virginia, then the auditor of public accounts is
directed to place the name of William Pollard on the pension list, and
pay him annually the sum of thirty dollars, on and after the first day
of April, eighteen hundred and ninety-eight.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
