Chap. 903.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 2 of an act entitled an act
providing for the working and keeping in order, maintaining the public reads
and bridges in the counties‘of Seatt and Lee, the opening and establishing of
hew reads, and to provide the funds therefor, approved February 14, 1598.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section
tivo of an act entitled ‘‘An act providing for the w orking and keeping
in order, building and maintaining the public roads and bridges in the
counties of Scott and Lee, the opening and establishment of new roads,
and to provide the funds therefor,’? approved February fourteenth,
elzhteen hundred and ninety-eight, be amended and re-enacted so as to
read as follows:
§ 2. The said board of supervisors shall annually levy, along with the
eounty levy, a road tax upon the property, real and personal, assessed
for taxation in the several magisterial districts of their county, which
shall be applied, as hereinafter provided, to the working, keeping in
order and re pairing the public roads and bridges in the magisterial dis-
trict in which such tax is levied. Such tax shall be not lese than
twenty nor more than thirty-five eents upon every one hundred dollars
in value of such property, and the same shall be collected and accounted
for by tho treasurer of said county, aud paid out only on the warrant
of the board of supervisors. The fund collectcd from each magisterial
district shall be kept separate by said treasurer, and a different rate of
tax may be prescihed for different districts in the same county; and the
amount collected in each district shall be expended therein.
2. This act shall be in force on and after the first day of April, eigh-
teen hundred and ninety-eight.
