Chap. 773.--An ACT for rehef oof William C. Poe.
Approved March 3, 1498.
Whereas William C. Poe, a disabled Confederate soldier of Bourne’s
regiment of Virginia cavalry, was a true and gallant soldier during the
late war; was loyal to Virginia; and
Whereas he is now sullering from the following disability—to wit:
His horse falling with and upon him during a nicht march in Green-
brier county, West Virginia, so injuring his side that he was laid up for
nine months at the time, and ; sald hurt still affeets him more and more
with advancing age: therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That*the county
court of Grayson shi all examine into the condition of the above-named
William C. Poe, a Confederate soldier; and should it be that he was true
and loyal to Virginia through the war, and that he is now aillicted and
incapacitated for manual labor by reason of said injury; that he is
needy and poor, and should receive aid from Virginia, and if county
eourt of Gr: ayson should send a certificate of the facts to the auditor of
public accounts of Virginia, then the auditor of public accounts is
directed to place the name of William C. Poe on the pension list, and pay
him annually the sum of fifteen dollars, on and after the first day of
April, eighteen hundred and ninety-eizht.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
