Chap. 30.—An ACT to authorize the registration books of the city of Charlottes
ville to be purged prior to the special vote to be taken in said city on the 1st!
of January, 1898.
Became a law notwithstanding the objections of the governor January 5, 1898.
Whereas it is proposed to submit to the people of Charlottesville o1
the eighteenth of January, eighteen hundred and ninety-eight, the ques
tion whether or not the said city shall issue bonds with a view of rais
ing funds to augment or save the water supply of said city, said vote te
be taken in accordance with the charter of said city;
And whereas it is necessary, in order to secure a fair expression fron
the people, that the registration books of said city shall be purged prioy
to the polling of said vote;
And whereas the time for the purging of registration books is now
fixed by law at fifteen days previous to any regular election, and the
vote referred to above being in the nature of a special election, no pro-
vision for purging said books is made; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That it shall be
lawful to purge the revistr: ition books of the city of Charlottesville on
or before the tenth day of January, eighteen hundred and ninety-eight,
in the manner and according to the provisions of section eighty-six, the
code of eighteen hundred and eighty-seven, except that the notice pro-
vided for by that section shall be given at least five days prior to the
dav on which the said registration books are purged.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
