Chap. 284.—An ACT to incorporate the Union indemnity league.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That Ge
D. Wise, H. Stuart MacLean, Charles L. Cooke, S. Galeski and Ja
Whittet, all citizens of the commonwealth of Virginia, and their a
ciates, successors and assigns, be, and are hereby, constituted a |
corporate and politic, by the name of the Union indemnity league,
by that name shall be known in law, and shall have perpetual suc
sion, and shall have power to sue and be sued, plead and be implea
in all courts, and may make and have a common seal, and alter
same at pleasure, and shall have, exercise and enjoy all the rights, |
ers and privileges pertaining to corporate bodies and necessary for
purposes hereinafter set forth; and may make a constitution, by-l:
rules and regulations, consistent with the existing laws of the state
the government of all under its authority, for the management 0
estates and properties, and for the due and orderly conduct of its aff
the general object of said league being:
First. To unite fraternally all persons of sound bodily health and |
moral character, who are socially acceptable, and between the ages of
fifteen and sixty vears.
second, To sive all inaterial aid in its power to its members and those
dependent on them.
Third. To issue certificates to its members, and to establish relief or
other funds, from which the members of said league who shall have
pud the required assessments or dues, and shall have complied with all
its rules and regulations, nuayv receive an indemnity in case of disability
to perform any work, caused by sickness or accident, a sum not exceed-
ing two hundred ancl fifty dollars per annum to any one member.
Fourth. The said league may create, maintain and disburse among
its members an emergency or reserve fund, as may be provided in its
constitution or by-laws.
The said league may acquire and own real estate not to exceed five
acres, and its principal office shall be in the state of Virginia.
