Chap. 260.—An ACT for the preservation of quail in the counties of King George
and Stafford.
Approved February 9, 1898.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That it shall be
unlawful for any person to hunt, kill or capture, or offer for sale or buy
in King George and Stafford counties, Virginia, any partridyes, between
the fifth day of January and the fifteenth d: ay of November in any year.
2. It shall be unlawful for any person to hunt, kill or capture, or
offer for sale, or buy in said counties any woodcock between the first day
of January and the first day of October in any year.
3. It shall be unlawful for any person at any time to take or destroy
the eges of the birds mentioned in this act, or to catch them with nets
or traps.
4. Any person violating any of the provisions of this act shall be
euilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished by a fine of not less than
ten dollars, or imprisonment in jail not exceeding thirty days, or both.
9. In any prosecution of a person for violating this act, in hunting,
killing or capturing partridges or woodcock, or in ‘cate ‘hing them in nets
or traps, proof of the possession by such person of any such bird shall
be prima facie evidence of his guilt.
6. This act shall be in force from its passage.
