porate the Medical college of Virginia as amended by an act passed January 22.
1879, and to empower the said college to take and hold any gift he retofore 1
hereafter made it or its hospital or infirmary by grant, devise, bequest, 01
other wise.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the fiftt
section of the act to incorporate the Medical college of Virginia, passec
february twenty-fifth, eighteen hundred and fifty- -four and amended by
an act passed January twenty-second, eighteen hundred and seventy:
nine, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
§ 5. The faculty shall, once a year or oftener, examine candidates fo!
the degrees of doctor of medicine, doctor of dental surgery, and grad.
uate in pharmacy, and such other deerees, as they may deem it prope
to confer: provided, such candidates have attended two or more ful
courses of lectures, one of them, at least, at the Medical college of Vir
ginia. The faculty may and they are hereby empowered to confer the
degree of doctor of medicine upon such candidates as have attended saic
course of lectures on medicine, and the degrees of doctor of dental sur
gery and of graduate in pharmacy and such other degrees as the faculty
may deem proper upon such candidates as have attended said course o
lectures in such branches of the science of medicine, dentistry, ani
pharmacy and other arts and sciences connected therewith as the faculty
may prescribe and designate: provided, each of said candidates ha
been thoroughly examined by them and complied with such other reg
ulations as may be adopted by the faculty and shall be deemed by then
worthy of such degrees or any one or more of them.
2. Every gift, grant, devise, or bequest heretofore or hereafter mad
to the said college or to its hospital or infirmary for charitable, educa
tional, or humanitarian purposes, or for the general or special objects o
said college or of the hospital or infirmary connected therewith or be
longing thereto, by whatsoever name or description, the said college o
the hospital or infirmary is designated by the donor or testator, th
Medical college of Virginia may, and it is hereby authorized and em
powered to receive and take and to hold the same for the uses and pur
poses designated by the donor or testator, if he shall so designate, an
for the general purposes of said college or hospital. when the avant, be
quest, or devise is not so designated, whether the same be given or w illec
directly to the said college or its infirmary or hospital, or be given t
trustees with power to turn over the principal or interest to said colleg
or its infirmary or hospital.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
