Chap. 843.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 1496 of the codeof Vir-
ginia, relating to exclusion of persons with contagious diseases, and who
have not been vaccinated.
Approved March 8, 1894.
1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section
fourteen hundred and ninety-six of the code of Virginia, relating to
the exclusion of persons with contagious diseases, or who have not
been vaccinated, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as fol-
lows:
§ 1496. Persons suffering with contagious diseases shall be ex
cluded from the public free schools while in that condition, and the
teachers shall require of the pupils cleanliness of person and gooc
behavior during their attendance at the school and on their way
thither and back to their homes; and no pupils shall be admitted
unless they have been vaccinated; nor shall any person be allowed
to teach in the schools of this commonwealth until they shall have
been vaccinated: provided that the operation of this clause concern-
ing vaccination may be suspended in wholeor in part by the school
board of any city or county.
2. This act shall be in force from July first, eighteen hundred and
ninety-four.
