Chap. 800.—An” ACT to provide for the removal of the several offices of the
capitol and the books and documents from the library to the new library
building, and to provide suitable furniture for the same, and also to provide
for additional officers in said building.

Whereas it is necessary to make provision for the removal of the
records from several offices of the capitol and the books and docu-
ments from the library to the new library building, and also to pro-
vide suitable furniture for the same; and
Whereas the state board of building commissioners report that the
sum of twenty thousand dollars will be required for the purposes in-
dicated; and
Whereas it will be necessary to make provision for such payments
efore the next meeting of the general assembly of Virginia: there-
ore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
tate board of building commissioners be, and they are hereby, au-
horized to draw upon the treasurer of the commonwealth for such
no amount as may be necessary to remove the records and books
rom the old offices and the present library to the new building, and
o furnish the same, not to exceed the sum of twenty thousand dol-
ars, out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated.
2. That the state superintendent of grounds and buildings be in-
itructed to employ, after completion and occupancy of the new
\ibrary building, the following employees: An elevator conductor, at
~ salary of forty dollars per month; a practical fireman, at a salary
of fifty dollars per month; one policeman, at a salary of sixty-five
dollars per month, and a temporary clerk, to be appointed by the
peneral librarian, at a salary of seventy-five dollars per month, to
assist him in the removal of the books and documents.
3. At the request of the city council of the city of Richmond, the
secretary of the commonwealth is hereby authorized and empowered
to appoint a suitable person, who shall be a citizen of Richmond, as
an additional clerk to the secretary of the commonwealth, such per-
son to be paid such salary by the city of Richmond as may be fixed
by the council; such person so appointed to be under the supervi-
sion and control of the secretary of the commonwealth as his other
clerks, but his duties shall be confined to the state library, during
such hours as the secretary of the commonwealth may direct.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
