Chap. 767.—An ACT for the relief of Sue Christian.
Approved March 7, 1894.
Whereas Sue Christian was convicted at the November term, eigh:
teen hundred and ninety-three, of Amherst county court of an as
sault in two cases, and fined in one case ten dollars and imprisonec
thirty days in jail, and in the other case fined five dollars and im.
prisoned thirty days in jail, with costs in both cases; and
Whereas upon the recommendation of.the jury and attorney fo:
the commonwealth she was pardoned and discharged from impris
onment by Governor P. W. McKinney, December fourteenth, eigh.
teen hundred and ninety-three, and she being a very old and poo!
colored woman, is unable to pay the fines aforesaid: therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That Sue
Christian be, and she is hereby, released and discharged from pay-
ment of the aforesaid fines, upon condition that she discharge all
the costs of said prosecution.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
