Chap. 758.—An ACT for the protection of fish in Nottoway and Blackwater
rivers, in Southampton and Isle of Wight counties.
Approved March 7, 1894.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That it shall
not be lawful for two years from the passage of this act to take, kill
or capture fish in any of the waters of Nottoway and Blackwater
rivers and its tributaries in Southampton, Surry and Isle of Wight
counties, except private ponds, by means of seines, fykes, traps or
in any other manner except by angling with a hook and line or gill
nets with not less than one and a half inch mesh.
2. This act shall not apply to the capture of minnows by means
of a minnow-net when the minnows are to be used as bait nor to the
hauling of shad-seines in said rivers during the months of February,
March, April and May.
3. Any person violating the provisions of this act shall be fined
not less than ten nor more than fifty dollars for each offence.
