Chap. 729.—An ACT to provide artificial limbs for George T. Meats, W. M.
Taliaferro, J. H. Conley, E.G. Wall and Thomas Rudd, inmates of the Soldiers’
home, who lost their limbs during the war.

Whereas there are only five citizens of this state at the Soldiers
home who have lost legs in the late war; and whereas no provision
has been made for them in the recent act passed by the general
assembly allowing artificial limbs to the citizens of the common.
wealth who lost their limbs during the war; and whereas the partie
are unprovided with artificial legs in consequence of their indigen'
circumstances: therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That th
governor and auditor of public accounts are directed to furnist
George T. Meats, W. M. Taliaferro, J. H. Conley, E. G. Wall anc
Thomas Rudd, Confederate soldiers who lost legs in the late war
each an artificial leg to supply the place of the one so lost.
2. That the sum of three hundred dollars is hereby appropriatec
to defray the charges and expenses attending the execution of th
foregoing provision, to be paid by the treasurer out of any othe
money not otherwise appropriated, upon the order of the audito
countersigned by the governor.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
