Chap. 714.—An ACT for the relief of Mrs. Amanda B. Cogbill, widow of a
Confederate soldier.

Whereas William C. Cogbill, of the county of Chesterfield, received
wounds in the service of the Confederate States in the late war be-
tween the states, of which wounds he died several years after the
war; and
Whereas Amanda B. Cogbill, the widow of said William C. Cog-
bill, is a resident of the county of Chesterfield, is in destitute cir-
cumstances, does not own property of the value of one thousand dol-
lars, and has no income whatever: therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
said Amanda B. Cogbill shall be authorized to appear before the
county court of Chesterfield county and prove her claim for a pen-
sion, as if her said hushand had been killed in actual service of the
Confederate States; and it shall be lawful for the said county court
to allow such pension as is provided in cases of widows of Confed-
erate soldiers.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
