Chap. 651.—An ACT regulating the appointment of assessors of lands and lots
in the city of Norfolk, and providing for compensation of same.
Approved March 5, 1894.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That it shall
be the duty of the judge of the corporation court of the city of Nor-
folk, on or before the first day of January, in the year eighteen hun-
dred and ninety-five, and every five years thereafter, to appoint
three proper persons, from different sections of the said city, to
assess the value of all lands and lots, together with improvements
thereon, in the said city, said persons to have the same qualifications
and to be appointed on the same conditions as prescribed by law for
the appointment of assessors; and such assessors appointed under
this act shall, in the discharge of their duties, be governed by the
provisions of chapter twenty-three of the code of Virginia of eigh-
teen hundred and eighty-seven, and the other laws of Virginia, with
respect to the assessments of lands.
2. The council of said city shall be authorized, in their discretion,
to allow to each of said assessors additional compensation over and
above that already provided by law to an amount not exceeding two
dollars per day for each day of actual service, the same to be allowed
and paid under such regulations as said council may prescribe.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
