Volume 1968 Law 99
Law Body
Chap. 549.—An ACT for the relief of P. B. Hughes, of the town of West Point,
Virginia.
Approved March 2, 1894.
Whereas P. B. Hughes, of West Point, Virginia, at sheriff’s sale in
Middlesex county, became the purchaser and owner of the schooner
Samuel T. White, and paid the state the sum of eight hundred dol-
lars therefor, which said schooner had duly been condemned and
confiscated by the county court of Middlesex for illegal dredging in
the waters of the commonwealth; and
Whereas the state, by section twenty-one hundred and eighty-six
of the code of eighteen hundred and eighty-seven, guarantees to the
purchaser a clear and absolute title to the property sold; and
Whereas the said schooner Samuel T. White was, after the said
sale, libeled in the United States district court, and judgment, with
interest and costs, was entered against her for four hundred and
thirteen dollars, which judgment had to be paid by the said Hughes
to prevent a sale of the said schooner under decree of the United
States district in admiralty: therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
auditor of public accounts draw a warrant on the treasurer in favor
of P. B. Hughes for three hundred and thirteen dollars, the same
being accepted by him in full payment of the within claim.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
