Chap. 513.—An ACT to allow Henry C. Farinholt to erect a pier or wharf near
Jones’ Point, inthe Rappahannock river.
Approved March 1, 1894.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That Henry
C. Farinholt, of the county of Essex, be authorized to erect a pier
or wharf near Jones’ Point, in the Rappahannock river, for the pur-
pose of shipping oysters and produce for himself and others, and
may charge for the same such sum as the county of Essex may
allow: provided the said pier or wharf shall not obstruct navigation
on the said river.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
Chap. 514—An ACT to provide for working the county roads of Northumber.
land and Westmoreland counties.
Approved March 1, 1894.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
board of supervisors of each of the counties of Northumberlanc
and Westmoreland be, and they are hereby, authorized and directec
to levy a tax not exceeding twenty cents on each one hundred dol.
lars’ worth of taxable property in said counties, and this tax shall b
known as the road tax. The county treasurer of each of the saic
counties shall keep separate the funds that are collected from thi
tax in each of the magisterial districts of the said counties. Anc
the said tax shall be expended for keeping in repair the public road
of the magisterial districts in which they were collected in the man
ner hereinafter provided.
2. It shall be the duty of the board of supervisors of each of th
said counties, at any regular meeting which they may agree upon
to proceed to advertise, in such manner as may seem best to them, fo
proposals for keeping in repair the public roads of their respectiv
counties, and when such proposals shall have been received the
shall proceed to award contracts to the lowest responsible bidders
and execute contracts with such bidders, who shall furnish bond wit
approved security for the faithful performance of the work. An
the work shall be done and inspection thereof made, and the sam
be paid for under such rules and regulation as the board of superv:
sors of the said counties may adopt to govern the same.
3. An act entitled an act to provide for working the public road
in Northumberland and Westmoreland counties, approved Februar
twenty-fifth, eighteen hundred and ninety-two, be, and the same i
hereby, repealed, and all acts and parts of acts not in conformit
with this act are hereby repealed.
4, This act shall be in force from its passage.
