Chap. 504.—An ACT for the relief of William P. Huff from delinquent taxes.

Whereas there appears upon the property books for the county of
Botetourt, Virginia, in the name of Sheppard Pollard, a certain tract
of land consisting of two hundred and forty acres, which land was
sold for delinquent taxes from eighteen hundred and seventy-two to
eighteen hundred and eighty-four, inclusive, the aggregate amount of
which taxes is: state, one hundred and forty-nine dollars and twenty-
two cents; county, one hundred and fifty-three dollars, and bought by
the state; and
Whereas the said land was purchased of the said Sheppard Pol-
lard by Samuel Newman, and by him sold to Joseph R. Thompson,
trustee, and by him, as trustee, sold and purchased by C. Nininger,
without the knowledge on his part of the existence of said delin-
quent taxes, and by him conveyed to William P. Huff, without such
knowledge on his part; and
Whereas a portion of the said land lies in the county of Roanoke,
and as a matter of fact the taxes on one hundred and forty acres
thereof have been paid in the county of Roanoke; and
Whereas the time has expired by which an innocent purchaser,
such as the said Huff and Nininger were, can be released and exon-
erated from the payment of such delinquent taxes by order of court;
now, therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
county court of Botetourt county is hereby authorized to hear the ap-
plication of the said William P. Huff and determine whether he is
entitled to the exoneration and relief provided for in chapter four
hundred and twenty-eight of the acts of the general assembly of
eighteen hundred and eighty-seven and eighteen hundred and eighty-
eight; and should the court be of the opinion, upon the hearing of
said application, that said Huff is entitled to such relief and exon-
eration the court is hereby authorized to grant such relief: provided
said application is made to said court within six months after the
passage of this act and the said Huff shall pay all the costs of such
application.
2. This act shall bein force from its passage.
