Chap. 475.—An ACT for the relief of R. E. Clay from payment of a fine im-
posed by county court of Amelia county.
Passed February 28, 1894, notwithstanding the objections of the governor.
Whereas at the November term, eighteen hundred and ninety-
three, of the county court of Amelia, R. E. Clay was indicted for
shooting E. A. Hawkes and was convicted of said offence, as will
appear by record of said court, and was fined the sum of one hun-
dred dollars, and it further appears that said R. E. Clay is a very
old, infirm man and in very moderate circumstances, seventy-one
years old; and from the petition of the judge, jurors, attorney for
the commonwealth and others, this is a proper case for relief under
aud pursuant to the statute in such cases provided: therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
said R. E. Clay is hereby exonerated and relieved from the payment
of the said fine of one hundred dollars adjudged against him by the
county court of Amelia county on the twenty-third of November,
eighteen hundred and ninety-three, in the case of the commonwealth
against R. EK. Clay, upon an indictment for unlawful and——shoot-
ing; and theclerk of the county court of Ameliacounty, Virginia, is
hereby authorized and directed to mark said judgment and fine
satisfied in full as to said fine and costs.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
