Chap. 460.—An ACT to authorize and empower the school districts of Scott
county to make appropriation to aid in building Shoemaker college.
Approved February 27, 1894.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That for the
purpose of aiding in the erection of the school building provided for
by the last will and testament of James L. Shoemaker, deceased, of
Gate City, Virginia, who devised his estate to be converted into a
perpetual endowment fund for the education of indigent white chil-
dren of Scott county, each of the school districts of Scott county be,
and they are hereby, authorized and empowered to levy and collect,
in addition to the amounts levied for ordinary free-school purposes,
the sum of five hundred dollars, to be paid to the trustees of the Shoe-
maker college, at Gate City aforesaid, to be used by such trustees in
erecting a school building at Gate City aforesaid: provided that no
money shall be paid to the said trustees of the said Shoemaker col-
lege until provision is made for teaching in said college all the
branches now taught in the public free schools of Scott county, said
branches to be taught free to any white child in Scott county en-
titled to attend the public free schools in any district thereof.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
