Chap. 438.—An ACT to regulate the erection and maintenance of wires for
telephone, telegraph and electric railway and other purposes over or across
any work of internal improvement.
Approved February 27, 1894.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That who-
ever shall hereafter erect, string or maintain wires for telephone, tel-
egraph, electric railway or other purposes over or across the works,
in this state, of any company chartered as a work of internal im-
provement in any manner so as to endanger the lives or limbs of the
employees of such company, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemea-
nor, and for each offence shall be fined not less than one hundred
nor more than five hundred dollars.
2. It shall be the duty of every company or individual erecting
or maintaining any wires over or across any such works to support
the same by and to maintain all proper and needful structures, fix-
tures and approved appliances as to afford the utmost protection to
said employees of such works of internal improvement.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
