Chap. 415.—An ACT for the relief of Henderson L. Lee, of the county of Lunen-
urg.
Approved February 26, 1894.
Whereas Henderson L. Lee, of the county of Lunenburg, a Con-
federate soldier and a citizen and resident of this state all his life,
was so wounded at the battle of Gettysburg, in the war between the
states, as to necessitate resection of the right arm, resulting in abso-
lute loss of the use of the said arm, by reason of which the said
Henderson L. Lee, under the provisions of the act approved March
fifth, eighteen hundred and eighty-eight, entitled an act to give aid
to soldiers, sailors and marines of Virginia maimed or disabled in
the war between the states, and to the widows of Virginia soldiers,
sailors and marines who lost their. lives in said war in the military
service, is entitled to receive from the state of Virginia a pension of
thirty dollars per annum ; and
Whereas the said Henderson L. Lee has never heretofore applied
for the pension to which he is entitled under the said act, and is so
physically disabled by an attack of paralysis and consequent de-
bility that his life would be greatly endangered by his personal
attendance upon court to make the application for pension required
by the third section of the act above mentioned:
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
said Henderson L. Lee is authorized to make the application for
pension, required under section three of the said act, before the
justice of the peace or notary public of the county of Lunenburg,
instead of personally in open court; and after he, the said appli-
cant, shall have subscribed and sworn to the said application, the
said justice or notary shall append thereto a certificate in the fol-
lowing form:
County of Lunenburg, to-wit:
I, , & justice of the peace (or notary public) for the county
aforesaid, in the state of Virginia, do certify that Henderson L. Lee,
whose name is signed to the foregoing application, personally ap-
peared before me this day, and having the said application read and
fully explained to him, as well as the statements and answers therein
made, he, the said Henderson L. Lee, made oath before me that
the said statements and answers are true. Given under my hand
this day of , in the year eighteen hundred and
, J. P. (or N. P.)
The said application and certificate shall be by the said justice or
notary forwarded to the judge of the county court of said county,
and such further proceedings shall be had thereon as if the said ap-
plication had been personally made before the said judge in open
court.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
