Chap. 407.—An ACT to authorize the county court of Halifax county to correct
the assessment of certain land of John Pierce, in the county of Halifax.
Approved February 26, 1894.
Whereas it is represented to the general assembly of Virginia
that by reason of the destruction of a certain mill, dam and other
buildings on a tract of land containing fifty-four and two-thirds
acres in Banister district, Halifax county, Virginia, the said land is
greatly depreciated in value: therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That John
Pierce may, within six months after the passage of this act, apply
to the county court of Halifax county to correct said assessment of
the said tract of fifty-four and two-thirds acres of land, and fix its
assessment for taxation at its present value, to be ascertained by
said court. This shall be at the cost of said Pierce, and nothing in
this act shall be construed to authorize the refunding of any taxes
heretofore paid on said land.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
