Chap. 306.—An ACT to authorize and direct the governor to appoint a com
mission to co-operate with the national commission in ascertaining the
position neeapied by the Virginia troops on the battle-field of Chickamau
ga and Chattanooga.

Whereas there has been appointed a United States national com
118810n, whose aim and object is to permanently mark all the posi:
lons occupied by the different troops upon the battle-fields of Chicka
nauga and Chattanooga, and to further take steps towards makin;
nd maintaining national reservations and parks upon these saic
attle-fields ; and whereas several of the southern states have appointe:
‘ommissions to co-operate with the said national commission i1
ocating of these positions; and whereas those who were partici
ants in these battles, and who are able now to locate the position
ire being rapidly diminished in number: therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That th
povernor is hereby authorized and directed to appoint a state com
mission, to consist of three membérs, all of whom shall be ex-Con
federate soldiers, who have taken part in one or both of said battles
and it shall be the duty of the said commission to co-operate with th
said national commission in the ascertaining of the positions occu
pied by the Virginia troops in the battles of Chickamauga an
Chattanooga.
2. That an amount not to exceed two hundred and fifty dollars, o
80 much thereof as may be necesgary, is hereby appropriated out o
any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated, to cover th
expenses of the said state commission; and the auditor of publi
4ccounts is hereby authorized and directed to draw his warrant o1
@ treasurer for the above-named amount, or such portion of it a
may be necessarily used as above directed.
3. This act shall hein force from its passage.
