Chap. 251.—An ACT to incorporate the Virginia boat club.
Approved February 15, 1894.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That Beverly
T. Crump, J. L. Hill, Oscar Swineford, A. S. Peticolas, W. Gray
Wattson, George B. Pegram, E. H. Bissell, H. R. Wayt, R. H. Smith,
and such other persons as are now or may hereafter be associated
with them, and their successors, shall be, are hereby, created and
constituted a body politic and corporate under the name of the Vir-
ginia boat club, and by that name shall have the right to sue and
be sued, and shall have perpetual succession, and may have a cor-
porate seal and alter or renew the same at pleasure.
2. The object of this incorporation is to promote the healthful and
manly exercise of rowing, and for the promotion of amateur oars-
manship and all amateur athletic exercises connected therewith, |
and said corporation shall have all power necessary to carry out the
purposes of its incorporation.
3. The said corporation may acquire, own and hold all kinds of
hoats, boating equipment, and all property relating to rowing and
the cultivation of athletic oarsmanship, and may lease or purchase,
and own and convey real estate not exceeding five acres in extent. .
4. The said corporation may admit and classify members thereof
upon such terms and conditions as may be prescribed in its consti-
tution or by-laws, and shall have power to adopt a constitution and
by-laws providing for the election of directors or trustees and other
oficers and defining their duties; for the admission, suspension and
government of its members; regulating the number of its members
required for a quorum; providing for an annual and other meetings
of its members; fixing the fees and dues to be paid by the mem-
bers, and prescribing fine for failure to pay dues, and regulating all
matters deemed essential for the proper government and control of
its members and for the care of its property, and may from time to
time alter, amend or repeal the same.
». The said corporation may in its corporate name maintain suits
for the recovery of all fines, debts, fees, dues and arrearages due it.
6. This act shall be in force from ifs passage, and shall be sub-
ject to repeal, atteration or amendment by the general assembly.
