Chap. 248.—An ACT to compensate R. W. Shultice for professional services
rendered in circuit court of Mathews county.
Approved February 12, 1894.
Whereas William E. Marechant and others instituted a chancery
sult in the circuit court of Mathews county against Alexander James,
Inspector of oysters for said county, Seth Foster, commander of the
steamer “ Chesapeake,” and others, restraining the collection of taxes,
and asking that the oyster law approved February twenty-fifth,
eighteen hundred and ninety-two, be declared unconstitutional as to
the imposition of said taxes; and whereas R. W. Shultice, attorney
for the commonwealth of said county, was retained by the above-
named officers, with the approval of the board of the Chesapeake
and its tributaries, to defend said suit; and whereas at the March
term of the circuit court of Mathews, eighteen hundred and nine-
three, said suit was dismissed at the costs of the plaintiffs; and
Whereas the atate has received great benefits from the professional
services of R. W. Shultice, and he having received no compensation :
now, therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
auditor of public accounts draw a warrant on the treasurer in favor
of Ro. W. Shultiee for the sum of one hundred dollars, for profes-
sional services rendered in the chancery suit above mentioned.
