Chap. 197.—An ACT to convey certain church and masonic property in th
town of Jonesville, in Lee county, Virginia.
Approved February 10, 1894.
Whereas the interests of Preston lodge, number forty-seven, o
master masona, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, and the Metho
dist Episcopal church, south, of Jonesville, Virginia, demanded tha
an exchange of property in said town be made; and whereas suck
exchange, followed by actual occupancy, was by the proper authorities
some years ago made, and the said lodge has much improved the saic
lot of ground and the building thereon so obtained; and the gaic
church has built a large brick building on the lot so obtained from
the same lodge, which building is known as the Big Stone Gap dis.
trict high school; and whereas this exchange has been to the mutual
interest and satisfaction of each. contracting party and to the in.
terests of the public generally; and whereas the process of extracting
title from the courts is slow and expensive, and the interests of both
contracting parties demand that conveyances be immediately made:
therefore, /
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
trustees, or such of them surviving or as may be hereafter appointed,
of the old church property of the Methodist Episcopal church, south,
of Jonesville, Lee county, Virginia, be, and are hereby, empowered to
convey the same in fee simple to the trustees of said Preston lodge,
number forty-seven, and the trustees of aid lodge, or such of them
surviving or as may be hereafter appointed, be, and hereby are, em-
powered to convey the lot known as the said high-school property in
fee simple to the trustees for such school property as may by the
said church be designated.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
