CHAP. 75.—An ACT to permit Campagnie Francaise du Tele-
graphe de Paris a New York, to land sub-marine cables on the
coast of the state of Virginia, and to admit the same to be con-
nected with all lines for transmitting intelligence in said state,
and to acquire and hold the necessary land and property there-

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That the Campagnie Francaise du telegraphe de Paris, 4
New York, a corporation duly and legally organized and
existing under and by virtue of the laws of the republic
of France, be, and the same is hereby, authorized and em-
powered to approach within the legal jurisdiction of this
state from the ocean, bays, or inlets bordering thereon,
and to lay within said jurisdiction and to land the same
on the coast of this state, sub-marine cables, and to con-
nect said cables, when so landed, with telegraph, tele-
phone, and other lines in this state for the transmission
of intelligence within and beyond this state.
2. That said corporation shall have the power to acquire
by donation or purchase, and to hold and own in its own
name, land and other property within this state necessary
to be used as stations on the coast of this state for the
landing, maintaining, and using said sub-marine cables
and making the proper connections with other lines trans-
mitting intelligence as herein above permitted.
3. This act shall be force from and after its passage.
