Law Body
CHAP. 7.—An ACT giving the consent of this state to the acqui-
sition by the government of the United States of so much land
as may be necessary for a public building in the city of Staun-
ton.
Approved December 15, 1891.
Whereas by an act of the fifty-first congress of the
United States, approved January twenty-six, eighteen hun-
dred and ninety-one, provision was made for the erection of
a public building in the city of Staunton, for the use and
accommodation of the post-office and internal revenue of-
fice and for other government uses; and whereas said act
provides that no part of the money appropriated therefor
shall be expended until a valid title to the said site shall
be vested in the United States, nor until the state of Vir-
ginia shall cede to the United States exclusive jurisdic-
tion over the same during the time the United States shall
be or remain the owner thereof for all purposes except the
administration of the criminal laws of said state and the
service of civil process therein; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That the consent of the state of Virginia is hereby given
and granted to the purchase or acquisition by the govern-
ment of the United States, or under the authority of the
same, of so much land as may be requisite and convenient
for a site for a public building for the use and accommo-
dation of the post-office and internal revenue office and for
other government uses at the city of Staunton and state
of Virginia.
2. That this state cedes to the United States exclusive
jurisdiction over the site so purchased or acquired, and
over the building or buildings which may be erected there-
on, during the time the United States shall be or remain
the owner thereof, for all purposes except thé administra-
tion of the criminal laws of said state and the service of
civil process therein.
3. The lots, parcels or tracts of land so acquired, to-
gether with the buildings and appurtenances for the pur-
pose before mentioned, shall be held exempt from all state,
county and municipal taxation so long as the United
States shall be and remain the owner thereof.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
