Chap. 690.—An ACT to authorize the town of Berryville to bor-
row a sum not exceeding fifteen thousand dollars to obtain a
water supply and for other purposes.
Approved March 3, 1892.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That the council of the town of Berryville be, and it is
hereby, authorized to borrow money and issue its bonds
therefor, bearing interest, and payable at such times as it
may determine: provided the amount borrowed does not
exceed fifteen thousand dollars, and the rate of interest
does not exceed six per centum per annum.
2. Said council is hereby authorized to use the money
so borrowed in the town, either by subscribing to the capi-
tal stock, or investing in the first-mortgage bonds of any
company that now is or may hereafter be organized to
supply said town with water, or in such other way as
in the judgment of said council will best promote the
welfare of said town.
3. In order to provide for the payment of the principal
and interest of the bonds so to be issued, the said council
is authorized to levy a special tax on all the property,
real and personal, licenses and all other subjects of taxa-
tion for municipal purposes; which tax shall not exceed
one-half of the taxes imposed by said town for all other
purposes.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
